Couch Crisis

Is there any such thing as a stunning sectional?  The big guy thinks we need one for our new family room.  Oh wait, we don't have a new family room.  It doesn't exist quite yet. We took our humble abode off the market a few weeks ago. Construction. Two year old. Four month old.  Special needs dog. Anyone have the number of a good divorce attorney? Ouch.

Yup, we decided on the addition instead of packing up 5 years worth of crap that has managed to seep it's way into every available crevice (great word) in this home.  I imagine that once construction begins this blog will end up chronicling ever single home decor argument I have with my hubby.  If anyone out there is actually reading this blog - stop in April when we break ground.

So back to my crisis.  Sectional or no sectional?  Not a fan.  Never have been.  I recognize they are comfy and provide ample seating.  Comfy is good.  Extra seating is also good but only if you have friends and since my hubby and I are both type A having people over is an ordeal because then our house may get dirty. Yes, this is how we think. Plus, we have no friends - not enough that would fill up a sectional anyway.

My last gripe with sectional sofas is that they encourage fatness.  They are so big and comfy that you just get lost in them for hours on end watching mindless television.  Nobody in this family aside from my 4 month old premie can afford to gain so much as one pound.  I've said my piece. Now somebody get me junior beef from Kelly's with extra mayo.

After sectional stalking on the web, here are some photos that I deem stunning.  You will never see any of these in my home because my hubby will claim they are not kid friendly.  Ugh.

Jonathan Adler = STUNNING.  Color = EXTRA STUNNING.

One Fish Two Fish

Morning mates.  I'm lost at sea.  I've spent the last 10 minutes trying to decide what I want to write about today.  Stop judging.  Yes, I do believe I've got tons of important things to share and yes, I have the time (even tho I lie and tell you I don't) to write about them.   Thrifty Thursday, Thoughtless Thursday, House Hunting, Wheaten Greetin'. Those are just a few of the many important things I feel compelled to share with you.  Stay tuned.  I'll be writing about them all at some point when I have the time.  Ooh.

I opted to write about how I'm home decor forward.  Does that even make sense?  I'm pretty certain that is how Tim from Project Runway would define my decorating.   Hi Tim.  I discovered Sugarboo and FishAye Trading Co. before Pottery Barn.  That counts for something right? Home decor forward.  It exists.

So here's my story.  Pay attention.  I live in a small seaside community.  Every store is obsessed with nautical. (insert smile here)  I spotted the Red Snapper picture in the window of a local store.  Asked my husband if he would buy it.  No.  If memory serves me correctly the pic was priced at over $250.00.  For the next  two years every time I would go in the store I would stare at the pic but couldn't justify spending the money.  Rarely happens.  I typically justify any and all overpriced items.

.....................................................................

This past summer my mom was down the Cape (aka Cape Cod) and saw this picture at some outdoor market.  Yes, I showed this picture to her numerous times when it was in the store window.  Smart move.  Very smart move.  My mom ended up purchasing the pic for me at the outdoor market believing that she was actually getting it at a discount.  Little did I know (or mom) that the $140.00 she paid for the pic is the actual price listed online through FishAye.  Whoot for not overpaying.  Womp for inflated prices in my seaside community.

                                                       Hello my little Red Snapper

Swimming right along.  PB is now selling this handsome fella. I prefer the Snapper but to each his own.  How much do you love the driftwood frame?????

See you on-board tomorrow.  That is if this home decor forward gal has time.

Sweet Indecision

I'm indecisive.  Very indecisive. When it comes to hanging things on the wall I'm a total nightmare. I can't make a decision to save my life.  In fact, the decision making process goes something like this...

Me: I hate the empty wall space in the kitchen.  I need to find something to hang.
Hubby: Ok. Find something you like and on my next day off I'll hang it.
Me:  Can I have your credit card?
Hubby:  Really?
Me: Yes.

(Insert lecture about how I am fiscally irresponsible here)

A few days pass, I do my research and find about a trillion things I want to hang on the kitchen wall.  I get totally stressed, annoyed and frustrated because I want to make the right decision but because I'm indecisive I really can't make a decision at all.  So the conversation continues...

Me:  I found a bunch of things I like for the kitchen wall.
Hubby: Ok.  So pick one. Buy it and call it a day.
Me:  I can't. I don't know what will look best.  I think blah blah blah blah blah.  Blah. Blah. Blah.
Hubby:  I just don't want something trendy that you like one day and hate the next.  None of that fad stuff.
Me:  Like what does that even mean?  Please help me.  Will you look at all the things I am trying to decide between?
Hubby:  No.  I will not look until you have it narrowed down to 3 options.
Me:  Ok.

Another week passes.  I do my internet thing and the conversation goes on...

Me:  Will you come sit at the computer during the next commercial and look at what I picked out?
Hubby:  Picked out for what?
Me:  The kitchen wall!!  Remember?  I hate the blank wall space.  I picked out a few things I like and I need you to decide.
Hubby:  You are ridiculous.
Me:  Just get up and come look really quick before the commercial is over.

Whenever I need to make a decorating decision I narrow it down to my 3 favorites and then let my husband make the final choice.  No lie. If you ever decide to use this decision making process be sure to give him your 3 most expensive options.  Works every time.   Who brought the smart girl?

Anyway, aside from letting you know how we make decorating decisions my conversation reenactment served no purpose.  Shocker.

Served no purposed because the one and only time I was not indecisive was when it came time to decorate our dining room wall.  I stumbled across the sweetest frame while shopping at a store in Wenham.  I purchased this sweet little love.

So what makes me feel super cool is that Pottery Barn is now selling this frame (4 years later).  Yup.  Again, who brought the smart girl?

Check out Sugarboo Designs.  Lots of color and quote options.  I went nautical of course.  Shocking.

Here are some of my other favs.

Sweet stuff.  Sort of expensive.  So worth it.
