Digits

Digits. Numbers. I need em'.  I've lived in our humble abode for five years now and I still don't have house numbers.  My hubby came home with $2.00 plastic numbers from Home Depot over the summer and  I tossed them in the trash before he could even take them out of the packaging.  I'm sure I also said something along the lines of "don't insult me."  I believe that comment resulted in the standard lecture from the big guy.... snob....get over yourself....who do you think you are....does it matter what the house numbers look like....why don't you go work overtime and pay for something. Blah. Blah.Blah.

One lecture later and we are still numberless. Woof. Ideally I would like to stencil our house number on or below the door in fun cursive writing. What exactly is fun cursive writing? Not sure. I'll let you know when I figure it out.  There is a house in Swampscott that I've been stalking for quite some time with the same house number (44) stenciled above the door.  Next time I run by panting and dripping in sweat I'll be sure to knock on the door and ask if I can borrow her stencil. He haw.

Here are some pics from my Pinterest board. PINTEREST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who doesn't love the Chatham numbers?  These bad boys are sprinkled all over M'Head.  Adorbs but not justifiable. I could buy a new pair of TB flats for $235.  Obv a $235 pair of shoes is well worth the investment and much more practical than a wooden  plaque that is going to get abused by the elements of New England weather.  Who brought the smart gal?

Stencil envy.

Hello. My name is Becky...

and I'm a Pinterest addict.  I pin anything and everything.  Sometimes I pin things I'm not even sure I like.  I pin recipes but I don't cook.  I pin cleaning tips but I pay someone to clean my home.  I pin arts and crafts projects for my kiddies knowing that we'll never do them.  I pin fitness videos, moves and exercises but I refuse to do anything other than run in a straight line.  I pins thousands of pieces of furniture, room layouts and window treatments but I have no space for additional furniture, no spare room to redesign and no windows that need dressing.  Oh, and one other tiny little thing.  I have NO MONEY. Ouch.

I'm a fraud - a god damn Pinterest fraud.  Yet I keep pinning.  Creating new boards and neatly organizing each and every one of my pretty little pins.

I'm wasting hours upon hours of my time pinning things I'll never have, never create and simply will never be able to afford.  This about sums it up...

My pinterest life is perfect.  Unfortunately, my "real" life is not.  I like to say my life is perfectly imperfect. Short post, sorry. I need to get back to pinning.  I'm creating a new Carolina Herrera board today.  Happy pinning my fellow addicts. xox

Perfectly Imperfect

About a month ago I heard a colleague say that she tells her teenage daughter frequently that she is "perfectly imperfect".  Those  words paired together just resonated with me so I stole them for the title of this post.  Thief.  I will steal them again and repeat them to my own daughter when she is old enough to understand.  Yup, I'm an unoriginal thief.

I have what I like to call a healthy obsession with party planning.  My husband would classify my obsession as unhealthy, especially on his credit card.  If I had to choose a career I would want to be a professional party planner.  I can't even put into words the immense amount of pleasure I get from event planning.  So when it came time to plan my daughter Maia's first birthday I was beyond excited.  I know she won't remember the day but I will.  I'll remember all the agonizing and obsessing over every detail that most of the guests probably didn't even notice.  I noticed though.  That counts for something right?  Someday I'll show Maia her b-day pics and hopefully she'll  think wow, my mom is pretty damn cool.  Wishful thinking.  Yes.   Nonetheless it is my wish.

I pretty much stole all of the ideas from Pinterest.  I really am the ultimate thief.

So now that I am 33 I have finally figured out what I want to do with my life.  Plan parties.  I want to plan events like my idol Amy Atlas.  One word for this chic  - AMAZING.  Okay scratch that. Two words - AMAZINGLY TALENTED.  Amy, if you're reading this blog can I please come play with you?

Anyway, Maia's birthday was no Amy Atlas event but that's okay because it was my event executed with a whole lotta love. A perfectly imperfect celebration for my perfect lil' lady.

I love DIY arts & craft projects.  I spent hours on this button initial that is now hanging in Maia's room.  Make. Me. Smile.  Hopefully it will bring smiles to her face someday.

I cannot take credit for the cake or mini cupcakes but I will take credit for everything else.  Whoot whoot.  I made the three mini cupcake stands from candle holders and precut wood.  Painted them white, glued some cute paper to the top of the holders and decorated the sides with ribbon.

Instead of goodie bags I just wrapped up mini Disney books for all the kiddies and mini glow in the dark necklaces.  Apparently these necklaces are a no-no.  According to my mom the necklaces are a strangulation hazard.  Oops. I apologize in advance if your child uses this beauty of a necklace to strangle themselves.  David Yurman gems were not in the budget this year.   Womp womp.

A year of Maia picture timeline.  This was a joy to make.  Smile.  Big. Smile.

Food.  I love food. Word to the wise - get on Pinterest.  Best. Recipes.  Ever.

Okay, this was kind of fun to make.  Basically it's a big giant thing that kids punch and get a prize.  Hey, what else are you supposed to do with a bunch of kids for a February birthday?

Parties, Pinterest and Imperfection.  That's all I got for you today. See ya tomorrow.
